The Migrant Resource Centre North West Region provides a range of services to migrants, refugees and humanitarian entrants.
The services provided fall into three broad categories:

Generalist
Settlement
Settlement services assist newly arrived migrants and refugees to settle into the community. The workers provide information, advice, advocacy, counselling and referral on issues such as health, education, employment, housing and income.

Immigration
Registered migration agents offer advice and assistance on matters including sponsorship, change of status, visitors visas, family reunion and citizenship.
Generalist
Generalist services include casework assistance, information, advice, advocacy and referral on issues such as family breakdown, income support and relationship difficulties.

What Can We Do?

Assist new arrivals to settle in the community;

Offer advice and assistance on migration matters;

Provide counselling and casework

Make enquiries and applications on behalf of clients;

Organise certain documents to be translated into English;

Provide information on overseas qualifications.

What Can't We Do?

Offer legal advice– But we will help locate legal advice and prepare you for contact with the service;

Provide material aid or emergency relief– But we will link you to a financial counsellor or an organisation that can;

Pursue consumer complaints– But we will refer you to the local consumer advice service which also operates from the MRC office in St Albans;

Offer advice on tenancy issues– But we will refer you to the local tenancy advice service;

Offer advice on insurance claims– But we will refer you to an organisation that can;
-
Find you a job–But we will help you contact a job network provider;
-
Act as an interpreter– but we will put you in contact with a translating service.

Who Can Access These Services?
Any community member of refugee background who has been living in Australia for less than five years is able to make an appointment to see a caseworker.
Appointments can be made through reception or by contacting the duty worker in person or by telephone.
Please advise staff when making an appointment as to whether an interpreter in required.
Services are provided free of charge.

Duty Work
A duty work service is also available from 1:30pm to 4pm Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at the St Albans office. The duty worker offers advice, information and referral to people who drop-in to the centre. No appointment is necessary to see the duty worker.
