We provide a variety of services and whether you’re a refugee, migrant, or holder of a humanitarian visa, the Migrant Resource Centre North West Region is here to help you.  We can assist in your settlement process, helping you navigate your way to a successful, new life in Australia.

Our SETS Client Services includes:

• Assisting you with your case
• Information sessions on various topics
• Building capacity for you and emerging communities
• Groups for men and women
• Recreational activities that you can join
• Community development projects
• Assisting mainstream agencies to work with:
  • Culturally and linguistically diverse communities
  • Service development
  • Planning and other related activities.

We provide casework services from our Hume office as well as from outreach outlets in Laverton.

Case Management

Our one-to-one case management program is designed to assist newly arrived refugees and migrant families with any issues related to their settlement.

Our case workers provide support with:

• Information and advice
• Advocacy
• Counseling and referral on issues such as (but not limited to):
  • Health
  • Education
  • Housing

Community Development - Social Inclusion

Social connection and connection to community are essential in transitioning successfully to a new country.  It’s not easy moving to a new area, let alone a new country and we want you to know that we are here to help you with the transition.

Being socially connected is important for everyone as the benefits are so great.  Social connection can improve your mental health and wellness and it lowers the risk of feeling isolated and alone.  It can decrease feelings of anxiety and low self-esteem.

Our Settlement Team supports new and emerging community groups and will work with leaders and members whilst focusing toward developing community strategies and opportunities for social participation and community involvement.

Youth Program

Different people experience different things, and we know this to be true for young people.

If you’ve experienced trauma and challenges in your young life, please know that we are here to support you and to assist you to move forward and to make a positive new start in Australia.

Our Youth Settlement Program aims to enhance the settlement experience of youth between the ages of 16-24 years old residing in the regions of Hume and Brimbank and who have arrived in Australia as a refugee or on a humanitarian visa whilst having permanent residency.

We are here to bridge the gap between moving from one country to another and support you with this challenging transition and provide one-on-one case management support and assistance, together with a broad range of community-based activities to assist with settlement in Australia.

Driving Program

Having a driver's license and being able to drive offers great independence, as well as a sense of freedom and autonomy.

The thought of learning to drive in a new country can be overwhelming, especially if the cars drive on the other side of the road from what you’re used to.

Driving in and around the suburbs of Melbourne can also be daunting as there is lots of traffic to navigate.

But don’t worry as we have programs to help you learn how to drive!

We receive funding from the VicRoads Victorian Community Road Safety Partnership Program to deliver road safety programs.

Our programs have been developed to enhance road safety for newly arrived refugees, vulnerable road users, and older drivers from CALD backgrounds.

We offer both off-road and on-road driving activities.

Off-road activities help people before they start driving so you can become familiar with a car and what’s expected when you are driving around Melbourne.

On-road activities involve driving lessons with a driving mentor.  This means you’ll have an experienced driver with you when you’re learning who is there to support you and help you gain confidence and become a competent driver, on the road.

We’re here to help you on your journey to driving independently.

English Language Classes

Moving to another country is challenging and even more challenging when you don’t speak the language of the country you’re moving to.

We recognise this as a barrier to successfully being able to transition into Australian society and that’s why we offer free English language classes, taught by experienced and qualified trainers and assessors who are here to teach and support you.

Our English classes are specifically for people from Non-English-Speaking-Backgrounds (NESB).

Information Sessions

As someone new to Australia, there are lots that you’ll need to understand and of course, most of it will be new to you.

At MRC NWR we provide a range of information sessions and training workshops designed specifically for you.  These workshops are designed to strengthen your skills and increase your knowledge of services and systems in Australia. The goal of these sessions and workshops is to maximize your access to social-economic opportunities available in the Australian community.
