What is the Small and Emerging CALD Communities Program |What Areas Does the Program Cover and When Does it Run? | How Can I Find Out More Information?

What is the Small and Emerging CALD Communities Program

The program aims to identify Small and Emerging communities from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds who are Home and Community Care (HACC) eligible. It educates and raises awareness by engaging with people between the ages of 25 – 64 and provides an optional information pathway about HACC services available.

Ways in which the Program’s aims are met include:

  • improving access to mainstream HACC services within small and emerging communities;

  • identifying specific community requirements that need to be incorporated into mainstream HACC services;

  • identifying prospective models of HACC services that would be culturally suited for the individual groups;

  • report findings to the department of human services; and

  • providing feedback to the specific groups.

The program supports Small and Emerging CALD Communities that are:

  • Lack the established formal support systems, resources,

community structures and ethno-specific support in terms of – individuals, organisations or agencies.

  • (relatively) Small in number

  • Unfamiliar with HACC services in the Western Region of Melbourne and are less likely to be able to locate and access services that can assist them to meet their needs.

HACC: Home and Community Care (HACC) services.

HACC services provide practical support for frail older people, people with disabilities & their carers, whose capacity for independent living in the community is at risk.
