Community Projects African Community Development Centre :: Bringing law to the Community :: Community Projects The MRCNW undertakes short term community projects which are able to provide sustainable benefits to the objectives of improving access to services for Migrants and Refugees. Projects might be run by MRCNW; run in partnership with other agencies, auspiced by MRCNW to assist emerging community groups to establish their project management abilities. As part of its role in promoting good practice in working with Migrants and Refugees the MRC NW provides copies of the reports from these projects to interested groups Catchments Contact Community Projects Team Current Community Projects include: African Community Development Centre MRCNW has worked with 14 African Community Organizations to establish a centre for community development based in Footscray. The group is now incorporated and provides a range of support services to the African communities from a strong base of volunteers. MRCNW is providing capacity building support to the committee of management with the aim that the group will in the future be independently running its own projects. Bringing the Law to the community In partnership with the African Community Development Centre and other key stakeholders the MRCNW will develop a Multi media Resource for providing basic Community Legal Education to African communities in the West. Information Technology Infrastructure Support Project MRCNW has joined with 6 community based ethnospecific services to evaluate and improve use of Information Technology in the delivery of services. It is hoped this project will be expanded later in 2006 MRC NW worked with The Sudanese and Turkish speaking communities in 2005 to develop community education strategies around family violence. This resulted in the development of training support for community representatives in the Sudanese community and the production of a Documentary for the Turkish Community. The documentary has been screened on Channel 31 as well as pay TV and has been used in further community education sessions to promote discussion. MRC NW can provide assistance directly to community groups working with and for people from diverse backgrounds. Type of Assistance
