LOCAL SETTLMENT PLANNING COMMITTEES (LSPC)

MRC NW resources 3 Local Settlement Planning Committees (LSPC) comprising of representatives from key services for Migrants and Refugees. 

LSPC's are convened in each of:

  • Brimbank Melton
  • Inner West (Maribyrnong/ Moonee Valley) and
  • Hume

These committees provide a forum for identification of service gaps, settlement trends and local area service planning coordination

Settlement planning committees input into policy and service development at local levels and link with the Victorian Settlement Planning Committee on issues of broader significance.

Eligibility
Agencies who work with migrants and refugees are invited to enquire to the community Projects team at the contact numbers above.

COMMUNITY PROFILES

Information including statistical and community profiles on emerging groups is available for service providers wishing to improve their understanding of communities. Currently available profiles include:

  • Diversity in the West
  • Diversity in Hume
  • Iraq
  • Philipines 
  • Turkish
  • Sudanese
  • Bosnian
  • Vietnam
  • Somalia
  • Ethiopia

We also provide links to other resources for service providers seeking to improve their understanding of our civerse community.


STAFF TRAINING
MRC NW is able to provide training to staff in the areas of :

  • Cultural Competency - General
  • Using Interpreters Effectively
  • Developing Partnerships with Diverse Communities
  • Specific Community Cultural Information

ASSISTANCE TO SERVICE PROVIDERS

MRCNW has some capacity to provide direct assistance to organisations seeking to design or redesign their services to improve their accessibility to diverse communities.

This can include participation on reference groups, project advisory committees and individual advice to project development.
