Turkish Social Support Program and Community Partners Program

Description
The Turkish Social Support Program incorporates three services. These services are the Friendly Visiting Program, Planned Activity Group and the Community Partners Program.

The Friendly Visiting Program relies on volunteers to provide one or two hours of companionship a week to the elderly or disabled clients or their carers.

The Planned Activity Group Program aims to increase the social networks of people by providing an opportunity for Turkish Speaking elderly to interact socially with each other through a program of activity and social support. Activities may include things such as games, gardening, craft, cooking, videos and guest speakers providing information on topics such as health, councils, recreational opportunities and income support. The group may also organize outings and recreational activities.

The Community Partners Program is designed to increase knowledge, acceptance and use by Turkish-speaking elderly persons of the whole range of aged care services available in the local area.

Eligibility
The Turkish Social Support program provides support to frail, elderly people and people with a disability of Turkish-speaking background.

Catchment
The service covers the local government areas of Brimbank, Melton, Maribyrnong, Moonee Valley, Hobsons Bay, Wyndham and Melbourne City Councils.

German Speaking Support Program

Description
The German Speaking Support Program assists German Speaking elderly participants through a program of planned activities, information and support. The program aims to increase social networks by providing an opportunity for participants and their their carers to interact socially with each other through a program of activity and social support.

The German Speaking Support program provides support to the German speaking frail elderly, younger people with a disability and their carers.

The service covers the local government areas of Brimbank, Melton, Maribyrnong, Moonee Valley, Hobsons Bay, Wyndham and Melbourne City Councils.

Indian and Sri Lankan Elderly Group

Description
The Indian and Sri Lankan Elderly Group assist participants through a program of planned activities, information and support. Activities may include games, craft, gentle exercise, guest speakers focusing on health promotion, outings and recreational activities.

Eligibility
The Indian and Sri Lankan support group provides support to frail aged people of Indian and Sri Lankan background. Although group members may be frail elderly, they need to be able tp participate with a basic level of independence. Carers are also welcome.

The service covers the local government areas of Brimbank, Melton, Maribyrnong, Moonee Valley, Hobsons Bay, Wyndham and Melbourne City Councils.

African Senior Men's program
This project is auspiced by MRC NW and run by African Communities Elderly Association of Victoria

Description
Group activities are run for Elderly African men 3 times per week at North Melbourne Seniors Centre - 111 Melrose St North Melbourne

Eligibility
The activities funded under this project are targeted to men who are frail and aged or with a disability and from an African Background. Although group members may be frail elderly, they need to be able participate with a basic level of independence. Carers are also welcome.

Catchment
The service accepts participants from the local government areas of Brimbank, Melton, Maribyrnong, Moonee Valley, Hobsons Bay, Wyndham and Melbourne City Councils.

Lao Elderly Planned Activity Group and Volunteer Visiting Program

Lao Elders Support Group is auspiced by MRCNW to run this project.

Description
Planned Activity Groups provide structured activities which are suitable for the frail and aging members of the community. The groups provide social support to isolated elderly members of the community as well as providing stimulating activities and events.

Volunteer Coordination includes the matching of HACC eligible clients to a suitable volunteer for social support or friendly contact (NB not housework or personal care services).

Eligibility
The activities funded under this project are targeted to men who are frail and aged or with a disability and from a Lao background. Although group members may be frail elderly, they need to be able to participate with a basic level of independence. Carers are also welcome.

Catchment
The service accepts clients from the local government areas of Brimbank, Melton, Maribyrnong, Moonee Valley, Hobsons Bay, Wyndham and Melbourne City Councils.

Coptic Egyptian Seniors Program

This project is auspiced by MRC NW and run by St Mary's Coptic Orthodox Church Elderly Group Coordinator Laurice Demian Ph 9480 1666

Description
Planned Activity groups provide structured activities which are suitable for the frail and aging members of the community. The groups provide social support to isolated elderly members of the community as well as providing stimulating activities and events.

Group Activities are run in Kensington and St Albans Each week. 

Eligibility
The activities funded under this project are targeted to men who are frail and aged or with a disability and from a Coptic Egyptian background. Although group members may be frail elderly, they need to be able to participate with a basic level of independence. Carers are also welcome.

Catchment
The service accepts participants from the local government areas of Brimbank, Melton, Maribyrnong, Moonee Valley, Hobsons Bay, Wyndham and Melbourne City Councils.

East Timorese Elderly Support Program

The East Timorese Elderly Support Program is a program designed to improve the awareness of HACC services within the East Timorese Community and to identify and work to address any access barriers for this community.

The service covers the local government areas of Brimbank and Maribyrnong.
