Settlement Engagement and Transition Support (SETS) Client Services

The MRC NWR provides a range of services to refugees, migrants and humanitarian visa arrivals/holders assisting them in their settlement process into the community and navigate their journey into the new Australian way of life. 

SETS Client Services includes assisting one-to-one case work, information sessions on various topics, building capacity for new and emerging communities, groups for men and women, recreational activities, community development projects, assisting mainstream agencies to work with culturally and linguistically diverse communities, service development, planning and other related activities.

Case work services provided from our Hume office as well as outreach outlets, Laverton.

Case Management

One to one case management aims to support those newly arrived refugee and migrant families with issues relating to settlement. Our case workers support, with provision of information and advice, advocacy, counselling and referral on issues such as health, education, housing, and more when necessary to assist individuals, in their settlement process.

Community Development - Social Inclusion

Our Settlement Team supports new and emerging community groups. Our work with the community, their leaders and members is to develop community strategies and the opportunity for social participation and community involvement.

Youth Program

The MRC NWR Youth Settlement Program aims to enhance the settlement experience of youth between the ages of 16-24 years old residing in the regions of Hume and Brimbank and who have arrived in Australia as a refugee or on a humanitarian visa whilst having permanent residency. One-on-one case management support and assistance together with a broad range of community based activities to assist with settlement in Australia

Driving Program

The MRC NWR receives funding from the VicRoads Victorian Community Road Safety Partnership Program to deliver road safety programs to newly arrived refugees and migrants residing in the North and Western suburbs of Melbourne.

Our programs have been developed to enhance road safety for newly arrived refugees, and vulnerable road users and older drivers from CALD backgrounds. Off-road activities help people before they start driving. On-road activities are driving lessons with a driving mentor Our Driving Program gets people driving.

English Language Classes

The MRC NWR provides free English Language Classes. Our classes are for people from Non-English-Speaking-Backgrounds (NESB). Classes are taught by experienced and qualified trainers and assessors. Please refer to Learning Centre Services.

Complex Case Support

The MRC NWR is a provider of the Complex Case Support (CCS) program. The program aims to meet the settlement needs of refugees and humanitarian entrants who are experiencing a multitude of issues by delivering specialised and intensive case management services.

Information Sessions

MRC NWR provides a range of information sessions and training workshops for new arrivals to strengthen their skills and increase their knowledge of services and systems in Australia; maximizing their access to the social economic opportunities available in the Australian community.
